Panic Time

September 29th, 2007 § 3

What I need is to be prudent, and infuse myself with people who are panicking, or people who ‘die-die’ must get As.

Why? Because I’ve barely realized how much trouble I’m in.

At 32 more days to the start of the ‘A’ levels, I’m going to go mad if I have to – in order to burgeon my grades from the current U’s (which is a failing grade) to something as high as possible. So don’t mind me if my posts the next few weeks go on about something related to my school curriculum; if my life is about it then my posts will naturally be pertinent to it as well. I’ll try to make them interesting though, so stay tuned.

Study hard, kids. Esther, you know where to aim!

Fiction In The Space Between

September 21st, 2007 § 7

The world of Literature is a pretty fascinating one. It somehow first imposed itself into my world when it was made a compulsory ‘O’ level subject in my secondary school. Took it as a half-subject. I grew to like it, a little. When it came to Junior College I took it again – but only because of the ‘Imagining Other Worlds’ paper that it offered. The other paper, ‘Reading Literature’, trains us to keep awake when under the glare of utter boredom, or at least to look like we’re awake.

We were taught to interpret the different texts, proses and poems in more than just their literal form – we saw depth in what seemed shallow, we saw darkness in what appeared to be light. As I grew to appreciate these literary forms, I realize now that I also began looking at other things in perspective. Events, issues and other stuff which are ongoing in life – I subconsciously interpret, unknowingly paste blueprints up in the walls of my head.

This is not to say that I analyze happenings around me – I don’t analyze. I’m probably one of the more ignorant people you know when it comes to goings-on between other people – if they don’t show it, I don’t notice. I don’t analyze what people are thinking, I don’t analyze their actions. When it comes to those your impressions are better kept simple and literal – our own minds are already complicated enough. Most of the time people just end up thinking too much anyway.

But to interpret things such as circumstances… that’s a different thing. Symbols, motifs. There’re so many events around me this year that I realize I wouldn’t have seen in the way I did if my perspectives hadn’t been opened wider. It’s a good thing, really.

But for now I need to read up on appreciating drama – for that boring-ass ‘Reading Literature’ paper.

Esther says I can write a long essay (or at least a long paragraph) about practically anything. She used my eraser as an example. (okay that line made me sound dumb.) I guess I do write a lot of garbage on lots of random stuff, especially last year. Last year was pretty bad. Haha! Nowadays… I’m just tired. Both physically and emotionally. It’s taken some of the humour out of me, perhaps.

Maybe that’s why people get so much more serious when they’re older.

Lisa Leaves

September 20th, 2007 § 3

Lisa Hannigan no longer working with Damien Rice.

That’s pretty disappointing. Some say his concerts have lost a little bit of their magic without her, and I can imagine that. Then again, that itself may be the reason why she had to leave. I look forward to her solo stuff though, if she releases any. You can give a sample listen to her singing right over here.

Aye, Matey!

Today is Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Sorry, not in the mood to ramble today. Need rest. Now.

Mmmm

September 17th, 2007 § 3

So I had this weird dream last night. I only remembered it just now, while my stomach was growling – because the dream involved rendang beef. There was also something about me driving, and meeting people I didn’t know. But that’s not the point.

You’ve been on my mind all afternoon.

Invasion of New Music

September 17th, 2007 § 5

Hey little girl, what’re you thinking about tonight?

Watched The Invasion today with Haowen and Yonglin, it’s a pretty good movie, I loved the plot (I’m all about plots). Go catch it if you can, but if you’ve to study, STUDY.

I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of aliens – done my share of reading of books and searching the net for ‘encounters’ or pictures. Pretty cool stuff – but largely doubtful. It’d be cool if we did discover alien life forms in my lifetime though, I’m hoping we do.

Am listening to Tori’s Tales of a Librarian, as well as The Postal Service songs that Yanni sent me. Good stuff those, check them out when you can – unless I force them unto you first. (evil laughter)

It’s Jerrytime!

September 14th, 2007 § 5

I squirted chili into my eye today, darn.

Today was the first post-prelim day. I spent it stoning in front of my computer all morning/afternoon, and then heading down to India and then ACJC to meet Henny, Yanni and Wei for free food. I have nothing to do, darn.

Anyway. If you’re bored too, check out Jerrytime! It’s pretty darned cool. It’s recounts of a guy called Jerry (who’s involved in the production), and some of it is pretty amusing. You can check out their first episode below:

Also, on another note, Melissa (Liaw) gave me the blog link to the girl who went missing a while ago, set up by her friends. Check it out.

View from the Top

September 10th, 2007 § 2

The sky looks awesome today. It’s ever-changing, the view here. You wouldn’t know what to expect, as each day arrives and passes.

Same goes to a lot of other things.

Do you remember

September 8th, 2007 § 2

It’s nice, watching them talk like old times. :)

Water, instead

September 7th, 2007 § 1

So waking up early isn’t that good for you, after all. There’s a random fact for you tonight.

It’s quite amusing when Creative and Apple compete with their mp3 players – right now it’s a major battle between Apple’s Ipod Touch, and Creative’s Zen. Each have their own special features, which makes it even harder to come to a conclusion as to which is better. Then again, it’s better this way. The more they compete, the harder it is to see who’s actually better, then all the more they’ll compete, which is good for their consumers (read: us. Or me, at least).

Am tempted to whip up an Economics essay on this, but I shall refrain from doing so.

Re-watching Tori Amos’ Welcome to Sunny Florida DVD, am loving it. She’s an awesome performer, really. Her songs, fantastic. I’ll probably be listening to it for the next few days, when I can.

I’ll stop before I start on a Tori rant.

The fire thought
She’d really rather be water instead

- Cooling, Tori Amos
