All These Childish Banter
October 21st, 2007 § 0
I’ve been following blogs/news/people speaking of random issues about the world since I’ve become hooked on the Internet, but none so much as ones pertaining to homosexuality – both locally and abroad.
Most events I’ve heard of have very childish and immature reasons backing it up, be it from citizens of the country, or even the powerful politicians. I mean, take a look at what went on with the Republicans – proposing a country-wide (consider the size of the US) ban on gay marriages just to get themselves some votes?
I can’t even begin to find a word to describe that.
But well, zooming in to local boundaries, there really isn’t much less immaturity in how the people around us act.
Repeal377a.com – a means of persuading the Parliament to decriminalise sexual acts between two men
Keep377a.com, as a retaliation to the above – a means of establishing the creators’ of that site’s definition of ‘the majority’, and pushing for the majority ‘s wishes to be granted, ‘for the future of our children and our nation’. To me, it’s as if they’re treating this as a game.
Enshrine377a.com – This one’s hopeless, and is just for your amusement.
Just take a peek at all those, and see what you think. I’m not bothering to rant, does it really matter? My sentiments hover around this, and this.
Early Tuesday Morning

This is a random entry.
15 days to the A’s. Anyone want to make me panic yet?
41 days to the end of it.
I’ve to print my notes in an array of different colours because I’m running out of black ink. The perfect time for it to run out, really. But so far I’ve had dark olive green and navy blue. Any other suggestions? Maybe I should have a rainbow-coloured set of notes.
A hard whack on my head, that’s what I need.
Go sign the petition.
Mmmmmmmmm… macaroons.
It’s like cutting a rope – with a small pair of scissors. It takes a while to fully cut through it, to put the frills and extras away. A while; hopefully not too long a while. It seems to be progressing pretty well so far… right?

I just had lousy Beef Rendang for supper.
I shall go to bed unsatisfied.
ps. Come down to Wala-Wala on Sunday, me is playing with Jack from EIC. Come watch me drink lots and then go on stage, it’ll be fun. Really.
Food for as Thought
October 9th, 2007 § 4
I’m starving. Mad-starving. And I’m really not helping, with what I’m doing to pass the time while I await the arrival of my dinner.
It all started out with my craving for beef rendang. I know I was able to get a taste of some rendang mutton at Little India the other time, but it’s not enough!
So it as suggested that a meal was to be had at this Indonesian restaurant, which had a more interesting concept than the normal restaurants. Each table would have an elevated metal sheet, with flames underneath it. Small dishes of Indonesian food would be served on it, so that they were kept warm while you ate. I’d been there before, but we didn’t know what it was called. We did know that it was at Suntec though. Now there was a moment where we mentioned it again, in the presence of our dear Iris, who gave us the name of that restaurant.
When we went there, it was closed.
I did some research after, to see if there were any other branches around. At first I couldn’t find much information on it, and then I realized its name was actually The Rice Table.
I’d been searching about it on Yahoo, when I stumbled upon a particular blog which had reviewed it. I further explored this blog, and found various other recommendations which looked interesting and affordable. Not to mention with yummy pictures.
Check out The Baker Who Cooks.
I’ve surfed a few food blogs before, but they mostly reviewed more ‘high-class’ cuisine. This one was much closer to my wallet.
That was yesterday. I came home today to find that my Mom hadn’t cooked the fried rice that she said she would, and began surfing that blog again. On an empty stomach.
Searching around the house, I found nothing appetizing. My mom noticed and told me to call my sister to buy some food back for me on her way home, so I proceeded to call her.Specifically asked for something spicy.
And while I waited, I continued browsing through the blog.
And you know what? My sister just told me she wouldn’t be coming back so early. Great. There is nothing spicy at home and the minimart downstairs is closed.
This cannot be. No. Nonononononono.
Letter to the PM

An Open Letter to the Prime Minister
What’s this one all about, you ask. Well, ever heard of the Penal Code?
Section 377A of the Singapore Penal Code reads: Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.
For those who feel grossed out at the thought of two men committing ‘acts of gross indecency’, and feel that the Singapore government ought to keep this code before the ‘gross indecency’ gets too out of hand, think again. By keeping the code, it’s as good as criminalizing a significant percentage of our population, and implying that ‘hey, you people aren’t welcome here’. And really, it’s not as if abolishing that code would result in the proliferating of this ‘gross indecency’ – some people just seem to have the fear that they’d start seeing things they don’t want to see along the streets or something.
Don’t care? What if your brother were gay, but didn’t want to tell you? What if that close friend of yours who tries too hard with girls around isn’t really as straight as you thought he was? Are you already guilty of ostracizing people who’re gay, or lost a good friend because you refused to accept him as a normal person?
Or does it not matter – they’re all just criminals now?
As we all know Singapore isn’t the most conservative society in Asia – in fact we’re starting to become quite liberal. It makes us wonder why is it countries such as Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines or even China do not have this Code, while we do. Is it really necessary to keep it? Will there be great chaos, crime, catastrophes in the abolishing of this code?
I think not.
Have an open mind, guys. Be a signatory for that letter, support what you think is right.
There was this debate that was going on about racism once, and I happened to read a little of it. A guy got exasperated and said, “Aren’t we all just part of a Human Race?”
Read this for more information about the amendment of the Penal Code.
Mmmurtabak
October 1st, 2007 § 3
Murtabak. Yum. This one we found along a street behind Tekka Mall, while we were hunting for a place to eat. Selmor Restaurant. The very friendly uncle encouraged us to sit wherever we wanted, and then we ordered. It took longer than desired, and when it arrived at our table we began exploring it. It’s not your typical “just mutton/chicken-and-onions” murtabak – this one had potatoes, and the conspicuous taste of spices (as in the ones you’d find in your bryani rice) in it as well. Oh and for those who don’t like your vegetables, it’s got onions and peas in it too, so if you ever try it out don’t forget to tell them not to add those in.
I make a bad food reviewer. I can’t help it, I just eat.
And for those who miss our dear boy Rocky, here’s him sleeping in a very, very odd position. Presenting to you, Rocky Yoga:
